Developing Musicians

Piano lessons are about more than learning pieces.

My aim is to help every pupil become a confident, creative and independent musician.

Five strands of practical musicianship

Hear & Respond

Listen, copy, recognise patterns, play by ear and develop a sense of rhythm, style and expression.

Explore & Create

Improvise, compose, experiment and develop your own musical ideas.

Understand the Keyboard

Understand notes, intervals, chords, keys and how music fits together, using reading, theory and a solid technical foundation.

Play with Others

Keep a steady pulse, listen and respond, accompany, play duets and make music together in lessons, projects and performances.

Become an Independent Musician

Practise effectively, solve problems, make musical choices, set personal goals and take increasing responsibility for your own learning.
