  • Summer Piano Lessons

    As you are probably aware, I don’t normally teach over the summer holiday but as quite a number of people have asked this year I have decided to make some days available if you would like to keep up with piano lessons.

    The days when they will be available are
    Tuesdays 18th, 25th August and 1st September

    Contact me if you would like to have summer lessons on the latter Tuesdays in August.

    Normal teaching schedule will resume from 3rd September.

    Teaching Fee Increase and Piano Lesson Agreement

    As you may be aware from the last newsletter, I will be increasing my fee slightly from September to £24/hr for lessons at my home and £28.50/hr for lessons in school or at your home.

    I will also be asking all parents to sign a piano lesson agreement which acknowledges my ’24 hours notice’ lesson cancellation policy. I haven’t actually changed any of the details of this and they are currently printed on the back of every invoice but I thought it would be fair to ask everybody to sign it at the start of the new term, to confirm that they agree to abide by it.

  • Piano concerts raise £300 providing piano bursary for Kampala Music School

    piano-concert-270609 The summer concert, held last Saturday was well recevied by the audience and managed to raise another £140 for the Kampala fund which means that coupled with the money raised from the last concert, a total of £300 will be sent to Uganda, providing a year of 60 minute piano lessons for an African student. Over the course of the year, details of their progress will posted here on the blog.

    piano-points-molliePart of the concert included the first presentation of the new piano points trophy won by Mollie who scored 42 points in the Easter term and gets to keep the silver cup until the next concert, at which point it will be presented to the winner of this term’s piano points competition.

    Audio recordings of all the student performances at the concert have been uploaded to an album in the gallery. The podcast episode features some of these recordings given by Mollie, Louise, Sophie and Alice along with the entertaining closing speech given by the special guest, Terence Ayebare.

  • Charity Piano Concert – 27th June 2009

    This term’s piano concert will take place in three weeks time.
    (Saturday 27th June 2pm at All Saint’s Church, Hoole)
    As mentioned already in the newsletter, the concerts are supporting the Kampala Music School in Uganda with the aim of providing a piano lesson bursary.

    We are delighted to have a special guest, Terence Ayebare attending this concert who himself was a student at the Kampala Music School and is now studying for a postgraduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

  • Piano Points Leaderboard – June 2009

    I thought it was about time I published an update for the current piano points leaders. Total points leaders on May 24th are as follows:

    1. Kate from St. Werburgh’s and  Alice from Tattenhall Park are both on 18 points
    2. Jacob from EPCHS on 17 points.
    3. Winnie from Bishop’s, Sophie from St. Oswald’s, Emily from Tattenhall Park and Joe from Waverton are all on 16 points.

  • Streetpianos – A municipal piano for your neighbourhood

    What a wonderful idea. Birmingham, Sao Paulo, Sydney and now Bury St. Edmunds have all been the lucky recipients of a number of pianos installed in various public places to encourage artistic expression and communication. I am sure they must have encouraged many reticent pianists to come out of the woodwork.

    Following a recent visit to the streetpianos of Bury St. Edmunds I have uploaded photos and videos of them below. I was quite suprised how well some of the instruments had stood up to the elements and exposure to the public.
