  • Christmas and New Year

Might I take this opportunity to wish everyone a joyous Christmas and a peaceful New Year!

Piano lessons in school will be finishing by 20th December. View your rearranged lesson times. Other than students at Upton Heath who will have a lesson as normal on Tuesday 14th Dec, you will only have another lesson if your name is on the spreadsheet or if you have a lesson booked on the diary.

Lessons will start again and follow a regular schedule in the New Year from Thursday 6th January, 2011.

Lesson times for Chester Catholic High will be updated after 16th December. Please see the on-line timetable or log in to the diary to check for updates!

  • Christmas Composition Competition

Though the title is a bit of a tongue-twister the idea is quite straight forward…

This year I am hosting a Christmas Composition Competition to get all my students trying their hand at composing. It is open to all my students and you may compose a song with or without words but there must be a Christmas theme.

    • The composition must have a suitable title
    • There must be a piano part which you can play
    • You may use noteflight to produce a score and have other parts playing at the same time.
    • Free Manuscript paper is available here to download and print
    • The score must be submitted to me (digitally or in print) by the closing date of 27th November, 2010
    • I will showcase the best entries in a gallery on my website
    • The winner must be prepared to perform the winning entry at the next concert on 4th December, 2010 2pm at the Music School, The King’s School

I will try to provide support with your compositions over the next few weeks and can give students a session on noteflight in their lessons to get them up to speed.

  • Betina’s progress – July 2010

The video promised at the last concert is now available so that you can hear how Betina is progressing. Adding the total raised at the last concert this year’s Kampala Music School bursary fund now stands at £250. We will continue to support it with the next concert in November.

  • Studio admin system issue

A few parents have reported issues with logging into my new on-line lesson booking system. The problem lies with the default Internet Explorer settings you are using. The best thing to do is to use a different browser, I recommend Google Chrome. (Click accept and install after clicking on the link and it will automatically install.) You will find this much smoother, faster and easier to use than Internet Explorer and it accepts session cookies by default.

Alternatively, you need to change the “Privacy Settings” in your internet options so that session cookies are allowed. Go to “Internet Options” in your control panel, click on the Privacy tab and reduce from Medium to Low then click OK.

You should now find that you can log in to the system correctly at http://whay.me/plc
